The work Skin is the original work from which all further works have resulted. In it, the concept comes to bear of photographing bodies and presenting them “in the proper light” so that the depicted surfaces are decontextualized. So that the properties of the structures no longer, or only partially, allow themselves to be inferred from what is shown, or respectively, so that interpretation of the properties cannot be disambiguated. The depicted tissue as topography, as landscape shot. As a formation without a canon. Genuine seeing is demanded. The means that are deployed to that end are perspective, light and clipping. In these clippings the person steps back behind his or her surface, becomes anonymous. Their material “flesh” exhibited, alienated and placed back in the display case of publicness. Beautiful or ugly, human or animal, abstract or concrete. Eye for an eye the beholder can decide what material to interpret and how to interpret his or her own.
